Description
Legal Counsel will provide in-house litigation and other legal services regarding property and casualty insurance issues.
All necessary activities relating to the conduct of the defense of accident benefits, bodily injury and property loss claims.
Responsibilities
- Research and preparation of legal opinions on coverage issues, liability and quantum of damages.
- Carriage of and responsibility for the delivery of cost effective and efficient resolutions of disputed claims.
- Preparation of pleadings and related materials.
- Conducting Examinations for Discovery.
- Court Attendances for motions, pre-trials and trials.
- Attendance at arbitration and mediation hearings.
- Prepare materials for and conduct continuing education sessions.
- Mentor younger counsel with respect to their ongoing claims files.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Law Degree, should be a member in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada.
- 5 to 15 years of insurance defense, arbitration and litigation experience with focus in Bodily Injury and some experience with Accident Benefits and Property matters.
- Proven litigation skills including trial or arbitration experience.
- Ability to interact with claims personnel and other departments within the company.
- Professional level of English proficiency, both oral and written, is required.
