job titles are used for the similar jobs at companies:
CSR - Account Manager - Front-Line Underwriter. Some of these
include upselling and cross-selling. Some pay commission
bonuses. Unlicensed positions are called variously TSR -

The job descriptions are highly typical from company to

about how much time freedom and micro- management occurs.
Dynamic Teambuilders will tell you all about it.
PERSONAL

About General
Insurance Sales Positions
PERSONAL AND/OR COMMERCIAL LINES SALES:
EVALUATING KINDS OF OPPORTUNITIES
* Candidates
applying for sales roles with proven B-to-B sales experience
AND contacts at the management level in industries may be
eligible for paid training in Commercial Insurance product
knowledge. Commercial Insurance Sales Producer/Account Manager
position can be arranged. You can receive wonderful
commissions AND ownership (at least partial), high
commissions, or other perks, and the likelihood, as you learn commercial
insurance and gather customers [your "Book of
Business"], of reaching income of over
$100,000. See "Generous Commissions" below.
WORKING
FROM OFFICE OR HOME: SALES [p/l and commercial] is available
for first-rate brokerage-experienced licensed persons - car
may be required to meet your clients.
GENEROUS COMMISSIONS: In many locations
Dynamic Teambuilders can arrange a sales position where your
new business commissions are high, there are renewal
commissions, and 90% of your customers will renew. Over a
year or two this can add up - as noted above - to a
substantial income, over 6 figures, for example $125,000 to
$150,000. Rarer but possible is over $300,000. Dynamic
Teambuilders will help you to achieve this by directing you
towards companies with good markets, competitive prices,
comprehensive coverage, reasonable risk-selection
criteria, marketing and customer service support, and
first-rate management that will help you function efficiently.
Dynamic Teambuilders will guide you towards the companies that
will give you these opportunities and advantages.
GETTING BOOK OWNERSHIP [see below] vs
GETTING A SALARY.
General Insurance Sales Producers can be paid
a salary, or entirely on commission.
Sales Producer position with a salary most
often have these limitations:
* Lower commissions, which limit income potential.
* No, or delayed Book Ownership [commission salespersons don't
always get even part-book-ownership}
You will be making this choice - depending upon the
options available at this brokerage - at the time you are
being hired.
Its a trade off. But rest assured - as a salesperson, if you
do not produce, your job will not last.
The key here is, "Can you support yourself on commission
only until commissions from your sales begin to flow".
An option sometimes used is to begin on a
salary that rapidly diminishes over the coming months,
depending upon how long after starting you believe that your
sales will take. Ask Dynamic Teambuilders for a "Business
Plan Outline", to help you think this through.
Summarizing:
* Salary positions will give you immediate income.
* Commission positions will definitely give you higher income in the long
run.
* See Book Ownership
BOOK OWNERSHIP gives these added
benefits:
* This adds both to job security and to cash
value. This is because the brokerage would have to buy
your accounts at time of your
departure.
* Many brokerages will give you 50% ownership; a few will give
you 100%. Most make you wait for some time before it is
yours.
* Occasionally a brokerage will start people on a salary
and, as their sales increase, transition them to the higher
income from commission. This is a great option for a
producer. It takes the pressure off, reducing motivation to sell high-risk accounts
while providing income.
HUNTERS vs FARMERS
* Less frequently offered, and suitable for
"relationship-developer" personalities [also called
"farmers" as compared with "hunters"], is
the option of being "given a book of business to look
after and to grow." For proven
"Salesperson-Account-Managers" [with the exact
General Insurance Industry experience, license, and education
only!],
Dynamic Teambuilders
can help you secure a position of this kind.
General
Insurance - especially Commercial: trucking and fleet,
liability, property, etc - is a wonderful, stable, very highly
paid, respected sales profession. You can achieve this when
you have the aptitude, a well-developed knowledge of insurance
and risk management, and you are working for the right
company. Dynamic Teambuilders can help you to find this kind
of opportunity.
Please see below for all of these
opportunities, and more!

PERSONAL
LINES SALES
Sales roles
must be suited to the personality of the sales producer. The
two kinds of Job Ads for Personal Lines Insurance Sales
illustrates this difference. "Hunters" find new
accounts. They don't hesitate to make outbound calls; to ask
for referrals; to call people on lists. "Farmers" make build longstanding
relationships with old customers. The best of each kind get
referrals because people will trust you and like to deal with you.
Please read and choose if one of these is suitable for you.
"HUNTER"
JOB - based on sales ability:
Receive 60% of commission on new personal lines sales.
Referrals provided, for example, clients that already have
home insurance, and you can quote on auto; or the reverse. You
also get leads from people to whom you have sold. Training and
salary are provided for 3 months, $3000 per month,
followed afterward by $3000 draw on future commissions. This
amount is guaranteed while you are with the company. You have
no responsibility for followup. This all handled by service
staff! Great company, all markets, full benefits. [a variation
on this position is "all commission, and 15% on renewals,
CSR does service.] I have seen talented people make $65k. One
very exceptional fellow made $104k on personal lines sales in
one year.
"FARMER"
JOB - based on cultivating long term relationships:
Take over
and manage a personal lines book of business. Do record
updates, up-sales, cross-sales. Sell easily by
receiving inbound sales calls. You have great rapport skills,
and easy-going temperament, and you are efficient and
accurate, proven by your former brokerage experience.
Depending upon location you will earn, counting base and
commissions, usually $40,000 to $60,000, more for VIP. Enjoy
great management, and receive full benefits. Many locations.
Combined
"FARMER-and-HUNTER"
PERSONAL LINES sales jobs at
the best companies can generate higher income for excellent
salespersons: $45,000 to $55,000, or even $65,000, is common
for jobs which are based upon commissions. We have met rare $100,000 earners who were true personal lines sales stars,
having built up a large customer base, and got the assistance
of a TSR/CSR for managing the changes and renewals.
LOCATIONS:
Ontario: Toronto, GTA, Brampton,
Markham, Mississauga, Hamilton, Kitchener-Waterloo, St.
Catharines-Niagara, Ottawa, + other locations.
Manitoba: Winnipeg, Brandon, Portage la Prairie
(Saskatchewan - usually only sales and management-level
positions)
Alberta: Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer, Medicine Hat, other
locations.
British Columbia - Spring 2007, most positions in smaller
towns, not Vancouver at this moment.
MOTORCYCLE
INSURANCE SALES
Sell easily by receiving inbound sales calls. The
brokerage advertises, offers competitive prices, calls come in
thick and fast. You work from April until September. Those
talented with extra-fine sales skills win rapport with clubs,
groups, and motorcycle sales companies for extra business. Top
sellers earn more than $55,000 per year in 7 months!
RIBO required, Powerbroker helpful. Normally hiring is in
February.

of complex risks. You are the head of a "small business
unit". You also grow the book of business through
expansion of coverages of your customers, and, through
referrals, networking, and solicitation. You report to the
Commercial Lines Manager. You may also be paid a bonus for
account retention, or because of the company's increased
earnings. In
some companies you have a partial ownership
"vestment" in your book of business, or some other
form of additional security and/or compensation. You earn
$60,000 to $100,000.
COMMERCIAL
LINES SALES PRODUCER: A SUBSTANTIAL AND SECURE INCOME
COMMERCIAL
LINES SALES "PRODUCER" - Detailed Discussion
Excellent salespersons
an generate high income at the
right company. For those interested in starting with, or
shifting to, a commission job (as discussed above), $120,000
annually in not uncommon after 4 to 5 years - rare top producers
earn $300,000 - although you can expect as low as $35,000 to
$50,000 your first year, unless you bring with you impressive
experience, a "book of business," or access to some
excellent potential customers. Many companies provide a
salary, and/or a "cash draw" for a few months, some
offer a low salary over which commissions are earned, but most
will expect you to be shifting to commission income within the
first 6 months - longer for some harder-to-break-into markets. Some will pay you 60% to 80% of commission on
new accounts.
OWNERSHIP/
"VESTMENT": If your contract includes even 50% vestment
"ownership" of your accounts [although you may have
to wait for this value to mature], this adds approximately an
additional 80% earnings for each sale. This means - its true - think about it! -
commission plus ownership portion, so you will be earning
about 160% for each sale. Then, since about 90% of your
customers will renew, and you will receive - depending of
various factors - from 25% to 50% of the renewal commission,
you will then have steady substantial earnings year after
year; and an increasing asset, ready for when you retire, or
decide to change brokerages.
VESTMENT IS PROTECTION: For some producers, what is even more
important, getting ownership vestment assures that you will
not "lose" your accounts by completing a sale,
losing your job, having a "non-compete" contract,
and not be able to sell insurance to that customer for
two-or-more years. Your having ownership vestment assures that
this account is really "yours"!
SuBesides these annual renewal commissions, many
brokerages will give you an ownership stake, called
"vestment" in your book of business. This can give
you the security of about 2 years extra income when you choose
to retire! ... and give you great job stability, because a
brokerage would have to pay you for your customers before they
could terminate your contract. This is a significant
job-stabilizer!
Your
ability
to open new accounts and to build relationships based upon
trust and service is of paramount importance to a salesperson.
Some companies will provide "warm leads" based on
referrals or from telemarketing - yours, or an assistant's -
to prospective companies. Some will expect you to do paperwork
and/or marketing. Others prefer that you spend your time
selling and cultivating relationships with your customers, and
they will provide you with Customer Service and Marketing
staff. The commission structure varies accordingly, depending
you how you are expected to spend your time. Commercial
Insurance Sales is an excellent career for persons who love
the relationship-building and making the sale, are comfortable
speaking with business people, and who have, or are
developing, a good understanding of commercial insurance, and
perhaps - a very helpful asset - already are connected with
senior executives of companies that are prospective customers.
YOUR
ASSETS:
Some Commercial Insurance Sales candidates are good at cold
calling that they can find their way into the market.
Some have a very strong network of suitable business contacts.
In both cases it is your knowledge of insurance, and
reputation of the company which you represent, and suitable
markets. Your presentation and your company's reputation is
sometimes even more important than price than a small
difference in price. This is important for winning and keeping
customers!
YOU
ARE MORE "FARMER" THAN "HUNTER"? Some
Commercial Insurance positions provide a "book of
business" that you can manage, grow, and use to create
warm leads. You know your character, and what kind of position
will be best for you. Some of our best candidates are not
aggressive sales types, but can move to a smaller town and
become part of the community. Excellent opportunities of this
kind are available! Provided you have the right experience,
knowledge, license and temperament, we can find the best fit
for you.
REVIEW:
INSURANCE SALES STARS GET THESE OPPORTUNITIES. Build
your income to $75,000 to $150,000 per year and higher over 5 years. You
know if you are a proven "sales star" with at least
6 months of insurance experience (and/or you have
excellent contacts to whom you can sell Commercial Insurance).
Commercial Insurance sales can give you a very profitable
career as a recognized knowledgeable respected insurance
professional. Do not mistake this for retail insurance sales.
In commercial insurance sales your annual renewal income
can total $50,000 to $100,000 per year or more, from
your "book of business:" the group of business
customers that you have cultivated, which contributes most to
your your salary, and gives you security from year to year.
Typical
"Sales Stars" are recognized by having collected
sales successes, top awards and recognition. you have decided
to change jobs. Your company wants you to stay, but there is
no future in it. For example, you have decided to change
brokerages because your current one does not have good markets
for the business coverages that you are able to sell.
OTHER
TYPICAL SITUATIONS WHERE ESTABLISHED
COMMERCIAL INSURANCE PRODUCERS
WANT
TO CHANGE TO A BETTER SITUATION:
Two typical
situations where sales producers want to change brokerages
are:
* Commercial
Insurance sales professional earning more than $75,000, but
not given vested ownership in their book, and not given CSR
assistance, thus limited by time, through having to service
existing accounts, from selling new ones.
* Commercial
Insurance sales professional earning more than $120,000;
upside earnings limited by commission/renewal structure, not
being given vestment ownership, with earnings target of
$200,000.

ABOUT GENERAL INSURANCE CAREERS
COMMERCIAL
INSURANCE POSITIONS/ PERSONAL LINES POSITIONS/MANAGEMENT
Whether
you are a PRODUCER who has a book of business, or you are
seeking to manage and grow an existing book, or if you are
predominantly a CSR or ACCOUNT MANAGER; whether your specialty
is MARKETING, or TSR "Account assistant", or maybe
the right-hand person of the president, or perhaps an
internal organizer "logistics person", or any
position within General Insurance, Dynamic Teambuilders can
help you find a suitable position. We receive new calls daily
seeking General Insurance staff of all kinds, and we always
have more than fifty insurance positions open.
Insurance
companies across Ontario call us and say, "I need a
person for this position," and then they describe the
jobs listed above. Although the hiring process can take
several weeks, sometimes these positions fill in just a few
days!
Please
keep in mind that it is only after we have met you that we can
send you for an interview! The hiring manager will then
receive not just a resume! They get a description of you which
they trust. This gives you the advantage of having the best
opportunities, and being there first!

Dynamic
Teambuilders helps people find jobs mostly within general
insurance brokerages. [H&A = Home and Auto. P&C =
Property and Casualty.] Most of these jobs include giving
advice and quoting prices, for which it is required that the
employee has obtained a provincial insurance license,
either "level 1"or - much better - "level
2". In Ontario, level 2 is called RIBO, Registered
Insurance Broker of Ontario. The highest license, Level 3 (in
Ontario "DI" - Designated Individual), gives a
person the authority to run an insurance brokerage, and to
manage persons with lower licenses. Provinces enforce this
standard quite closely.
NEWLY
LICENSED, OR STUDYING FOR YOU LICENSE, AND YOU HAVE NO GENERAL
INSURANCE EXPERIENCE? Finding general insurance employment can
be a problem. This is because there is so much competition for
these positions (less so in Alberta). The odds are against an
employment agency being able to help. But don't give up!
Create a great resume and cover letter. Send it to the largest
companies. Or find a friend in this business that will train
you. Sales path: Another option, if you have a
sales-oriented personality, is to find a brokerage that will
pay commission for what you sell, but no salary, in return for
training you. After a year or two of such experience, you will
have become of value in this job market. Do not relent.
General Insurance is a career worth getting! Summing up: IF
YOU HAVE BOTH LICENSE AND EXPERIENCE, CALL US! IF YOU HAVE THE
EXPERIENCE, EVEN IF YOU HAVE NO LICENSE, CALL; WE CAN PROBABLY
ASSIST YOU - provided you have a pipeline to selling
commercial lines insurance to an industry with which you are
familiar.
Call us! We want to assist you, and we will do a
great job for you!
Starter
Jobs in General Insurance - Road to Career Passport
You may be lucky and get a starter job that is a great place
to stay. But no matter; the key thing is that the training is
good. After 12 months to three years, you will know your job,
and you can decide if you want to continue working in that
setting. For example, most call centers exercise strict
controls, and there may be little opportunity for added
learning and upward mobility. Deciding to
change positions, and to seek a wider range of learning, and
wider choice for advancement, is common. After all, restricted
knowledge is risky. Knowing more gives you more variety of
choices of places to work. Breadth and depth of knowledge -
together with an impeccable reputation - will give you the
highest job security! ... anywhere in Canada, and other
countries, too!
Contacting
Dynamic Teambuilders could be one of your life's best career
moves. While we are not able to assist every one who contacts
us, more than 90% of those whom we assist are satisfied, or
very satisfied, with where we have helped them to find work.
This is because, just as we select candidates carefully, we
also select companies carefully, and we make matches that we
believe will be fulfilling to both!

Many positions
for people without experience are hired by call centers. After
that, while the
training there is useful, many people cannot tolerate that
environment for more than a year or two. This
is when insurance industry call center employees will call Dynamic
Teambuilders to assist them with locating a more suitable
position; one that will be more enjoyable and beneficial,
where your training will be valued and appreciated.
The other realistic possibility for beginning without
experience is if you are interested in Commercial Insurance
Sales and you truly have excellent commercial insurance sales
leads; at the very least, successful B-to-B (not retail)
experience, and a truly great aptitude for sales. (see above
sections Commercial Insurance Sales).
